Tapping didn't pick the thing I wanted

Switch to Brush and paint roughly over it: Smart Select finds the whole object from your stroke. For anything with odd edges, use Lasso and draw around it. Paint with Erase on to take part of a selection away. Tap something already selected to deselect it.

A faint trace is left where something was

Select what's left (the Brush is quickest) and tap Remove again. Shadows are found automatically, but if one stays behind, paint over it too.

Setting up the AI

REMOVE IT edits with AI that runs on your device. Remove and Smart Select download by themselves the first time (about 300 MB). Expand and Background use the Painter, a one-time download of about 3.5 GB that you start from either tool or from Settings › AI. Downloads keep going if you leave the app, and are best over Wi-Fi; turn on Download over mobile data in Settings if you'd like. The Painter needs 8 GB of memory: iPhone 15 Pro and later, and iPads and Macs with an M-series chip.

Background put someone in the wrong spot

Before you tap Create, drag them to move and pinch to resize. Tap Create Another for a new version of the same scene; your versions stay in the strip to flip between.

Expand painted something odd at the edge

Add a detail in the box (for example "more sea" or "sunset sky") and expand again, or drag your photo to a different spot in the new frame.

It says it needs more memory

Close a few apps, or restart your device, then try again.

Saving to Photos

If saving says it needs permission, open Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos › REMOVE IT and choose Add Photos Only or Full Access. Choose HEIC or JPEG in REMOVE IT's Settings; cutouts on a clear background save as PNG.

My edits aren't on my other device

iCloud Sync is part of Pro. On each device, check Settings › iCloud in REMOVE IT shows Sync with iCloud on, and that every device is signed in to the same iCloud account. Large photos can take a few minutes to arrive, and arrive fastest over Wi-Fi. If it says iCloud is full, free up space or add storage in Settings › your name › iCloud.

Restoring purchases

On the Pro screen or in Settings › REMOVE IT Pro, tap Restore Purchases while signed in to the Apple Account you bought with. To manage or cancel a subscription, go to Settings on your device › your name › Subscriptions.
